Providing Safe and Modern Schools for Every Local Student

Los Altos School District (LASD) schools are regularly ranked in the top 1% of all schools in California. Parents and community members alike tell us that LASD schools help to improve the quality of life in our community and protect the value of our homes.

Local Schools Are Aging and in Need of Repairs
However, some of our school facilities are over 25 years old, aging, and in urgent need of improvements. Locally controlled funding would allow us to complete essential repairs and upgrades to school roofs, windows, bathrooms, plumbing, wiring, and heating and cooling systems to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for all students.

Additionally, many classes are currently held in old, deteriorating portable classrooms that are well past their useful age, presenting safety issues for students. A local source of funding would allow us to replace these aging portables with permanent classrooms.

Providing Ten Campuses for Our Ten Schools
Currently, ten of our community's schools are forced to share nine campuses. Locally controlled funding is needed to construct a tenth campus so that we can finally solve our junior high school overcrowding problem and have an individual campus for each of our schools.

Exploring Local Funding Options that Can't Be Taken by the State
In order to complete identified repairs and upgrades across all our neighborhood schools, the LASD Board of Trustees is considering placing a $350 million bond measure on the November 2024 ballot. This measure would cost taxpayers in the District $30 per $100,000 of a property's assessed (not market) value, per year, while bonds are outstanding.

Funding from this measure could be used to:

  • Fix leaky roofs and windows and modernize aging heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Improve accessibility for students with disabilities
  • Enhance science, technology, engineering, and math classrooms and labs
  • Complete the construction of the tenth campus to relieve school traffic and overcrowding
