Welcome to Los Altos School District!

LASD has a supportive and vibrant partnership with our parents, neighborhoods and broader communities. Our nine school communities work together for the success of each child, and foster lifetime bonds between families and students. Please visit our Media Gallery to learn more about teaching and learning in our school district at all grade levels.

"Students in Los Altos School District excel due to our student-centered approach to education. Our students experience a cohesive, well-rounded and rigorous K-8th grade education in an inclusive environment where every child is valued and all achievements are celebrated."

- Sandra McGonagle, Superintendent

Suggested Routes to School

Walking to School

Families are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool to school, and school sites have incentive programs for students to walk or cycle to school. LASD coordinates with the cities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View to create suggested routes to school.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down in school neighborhoods and obey all traffic laws related to crosswalks and school parking lots.  Student safety is a top priority!

Before & After School Care

Each elementary school site has partnered with a Child Care center that provides care before and after school for students.  Please visit your neighborhood school website for details on fees and space availability.

Stay Informed

The Los Altos School District's mission is to educate children, but we also feel it is vital to keep the parents informed of what is happening in the classroom, so they can support their student. Communication is provided to parents through a number of resources.

Get Involved

LASD has very active Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) on every school site, which contribute over 170,000 volunteer hours inside and outside the classroom each year.  The mission of the PTA is to facilitate communications between parents and teachers, have "fun"raisers for campus projects, and make our schools a safe and inviting community. Parents can get involved in just about any way at their school, including volunteering in the classroom.

Support Our Programs

The Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) is a non-profit organization of parent volunteers representing each school in the district. LAEF raises funds from parents and the community to provide enrichment programs and smaller class sizes for all nine schools in the Los Altos School District.

Each school’s PTA also raises funds to be used on that campus. PTAs and LAEF work in partnership to create the most efficient way to raise funds and provide programs to the district's students. To put it simply LAEF funds the wonderful staff for our programs and the PTA provides the essential tools to keep the programs running. One example would be LAEF funding the Librarian and the PTA funding the books and computers inside the library. Giving to LAEF and PTA is a way of investing in what we value: our children’s education.
