Here’s a quick snapshot of what you need to know to get acclimated!

• Complete PowerSchool Registration

  • Watch your inbox in late July for an email from “PowerSchool Enrollment” asking you to confirm your registration information such as name, address, and emergency contact information. Be sure to select yes when asked if you want to be included on the school directory. Note: new and returning students must complete this annually

  • PowerSchool may also be used to access your child’s report cards and standardized test information. In Junior High, the teachers use PowerSchool to post test and assignment scores.

• Create a login for Classroom Parent

  • This is our school directory. It also is where you can sign up to be a PTA member, sign up to volunteer at school, and purchase Almond apparel or tickets to community parties.

  • Your family’s information will automatically populate in Classroom Parent within a few days after completing your PowerSchool registration (delays possible if the school year has not started). Once you are listed, check your profile to ensure you have opted in to receive emails. You will miss valuable communications from your child’s room parent as well as school-wide PTA emails if you opt out. You must have a login to access class lists and sign up for volunteering.

• Subscribe to the Almond Calendar so you know about upcoming minimum days and holidays as well as school-wide events.

• Communication

  • Thursday Word is our school newsletter. This is the most complete source of information you will get about upcoming school events

  • PTA has the ability to send emails by class, grade, or school-wide using Classroom Parent. Emails are usually event-specific. We strive to minimize the number of emails and welcome feedback about communication methods.

  • Marquee board at the front of campus has important upcoming dates.

  • Join the Almond Elementary School Parents Facebook Group for an informal way to connect, ask questions, or see last minute reminders. Requests to join will be cross-referenced with Classroom Parent listings to ensure the group is private to Almond families only.

  • WhatsApp. Most classes/grades have a WhatsApp group to facilitate communication. Reach out to your child’s room parent if you are not sure how to be added. Room parent names can be found on the page for your child’s classroom in Classroom Parent (Note that a Lead Room Parent/LRP might not be selected until a few weeks into the school year).
